Da King of the cabin: Abandoned baby orangutan's first class cruise to new home in Britain

An adorable orphaned baby orangutan finally got a taste of first class treatment when he was given his own five-star cabin on a ferry trip to his new home.
Eleven-month old Silvestre has been raised by hand by keepers at Santillana Zoo in Spain since his mother simply put him down and walked away.
But far from being lonely Silvestre is now having a swinging time with his adopted family at Monkey World in Dorset, alongside sisters Dinda and Lingga.

And he had lots to tell his new friends after making the 690-mile journey between the two sanctuaries in a private four-bedroom cabin aboard the Cap Finistere.
On the Brittany Ferry, which sailed from Santander to Portsmouth, Silvestre dined on citrus fruit and milk and spent most of his time swinging from ladders and bunkbeds in his £150-a-night room.
The keepers also accompanied him on his trip.

The critically-endangered Sumatran ourangutan is now starting a new life at Europe’s only creche for orphaned orangutans at Monkey World in Wareham, Dorset.
Dr Alison Cronin, Monkey World's director, said: 'Silvestre travelled like a VIP and had a fantastic journey.
'He is a fluffy bundle of joy and has settled in well.
'I’m delighted to be able to offer him a place in our nursery group so this critically endangered species has as good a start in life as possible.'

Brittany Ferries’ spokesman Chris Jones said: 'He’s a lovely little orangutan - he just melts your heart.
'Because he was so young and had been separated from his mother, he had to be near his keeper all the time he was travelling.
'We couldn’t put him out on deck so he used a normal passenger cabin.
'He was on board for 24 hours and treated like a normal passenger.
'He had plenty of time to meet people who were keen to see him.
'He went up and met some of the crew and had a really good time.

'We get a lot of unusual requests but it’s the first time I know we’ve carried an orangutan.'
Dr Cronin said Monkey World's objective was to help Silvestre grow into a 'well-adjusted' adult ape after his difficult introduction to life so far.
Orangutans have the longest childhood of the great apes and youngsters usually stay with their mothers for seven years.
The current population of Sumatran orangutans in the wild is estimated at only 7,000 and as as such are on the critically endangered species list.
